This short essay-writing assignment has two parts:
1]Use your summarizing and paraphrasing skills to make sure that you are “listening” to the author, and can “say back” their key points in writing without getting caught up in your own opinions and thoughts.
2. After summarizing the text, respond to the author in one the following ways:
• Relate to the text by making connections between the text and your own life [e.g. personal experiences, feelings, other texts, current events in the world at large, etc.]. Formulate two questions that you have after reading the text.
• Reflect on the text by explaining whether it has changed the way you look at, feel or think about something. If so, how? If not, why?
• Review the text by explaining what you appreciated and found problematic about the author’s message.
Approximately 500 words.
