Managing Information System

Instructions

For this work you will have to write it into my Docx file uploaded, for approximately 4 paragraphs plus a table (that’s why I assigned 3 pages).

It can be said this is almost regarded with researching because we can not think of it by our self without having look into the internet, but of course we could write it as what we think to make it like a creative writing.

Write into the Yellow-highlighted part from page 4.

YES, if you have any concerns please let me know because it has something to do with Microsoft Azure, and Web Deploy which are popular and used by business firms.

3: Cloud Computing Discussion

  1. a) Explain why a firm would want to deploy servers to different Locations/Regions

A basic reason why a firm would seek to deploy servers to different locations is due to security reasons. Having servers in different regions is beneficial since it spreads the risk of mechanical or technological damage. These damages can arise from natural courses, such as natural catastrophes, power failure or human activities such as vandalism. However, all servers may be nonfunctional should the Central Application Server sustain damage (Walkenbach, Groh, Tyson & Wempen, 2010). Another merit that deploying servers to various locations offers a firm is that site servers can produce the needed redundancy at a local level should the connections to cloud resources become faulty. In some cases, a multi-server system eradicates single-point sensitivity, such as at print server layers. Additionally, the presence of central administration gives the advantage of simple user management. A multi-server system also reduces Wide Area Network (WAN) traffic despite the need for stronger servers.

  1. b) Explain to your manager how pricing works on Microsoft Azure. For example, if you needed to deploy a server, how do you compare/contrast the costs for a cloud deployment vs. a physical deployment?

Windows Azure Cloud Computing has become more common in recent times as people opt for cloud computing rather than physical deployment. Getting started on Windows Azure is free, a person only needs to create a free account that enables a person to test services via a trial account. After creating an account, a person is awarded 200 dollars’ credit valid for 30 days. Additionally, an account owner is given free access to Storage for 12 months (Pietschmann, 2016). Microsoft Azure then uses various usage factors to determine prices. These pricing factors include the numbers of transactions; which are appraised as application requests such as Puts and Gets, bandwidth requirements that are the computed from the transmissions between the Azure data center and private servers, and the compute time; calculated in machine hours.

In terms of prices, a comparison can be made between Azure’s Basic Package and on-premises server costs. According to Fields, (2016), the Basic Package comprises of an Azure Virtual Network that serves as a miniature VPN and costs about $27. A Basic A1 Domain Controller costs about $37 while a DFS File Server costs $65. Basic A3 SQL Database can cost as much as $429 and an IIS Web frontend $65. This brings the total cost to about 620 dollars every month. Compared to on-premises servers, a person can spend about 40,000 dollars for 36 months to run a physical server in the SMB (Deckler, 2016). That translates to about $1,200 a month, way cheaper than Azure’s cloud deployment. However, one has to incur more expenses on facilities, power, maintenance and others that cloud computing eradicates.

Factors Considered Physical Server Cloud Servers (MS Azure)
Security

Less Secure

Physical damages, thefts, natural catastrophes

More Secure.

Not susceptible to physical damages and vandalism

Installation Cost High installation cost (A technician is required; purchase of hardware) Low cost ( Free Microsoft Azure account)
Installation Incentives Dependent on installer company $200 credit 1st Month, Free Access to Storage for the 1st 12 months
Maintenance Requires high maintenance and repairs Low physical maintenance
Monthly costs Approx. $1200 per month Approx. $600 per server every month (Standalone)
Power Consumption High Consumption Lower consumption
User convenience Less Convenient Highly convenient

  1. c) Imagine you volunteer at a retirement community. Explain the concept of cloud computing to the residents of the retirement community.

Cloud computing is a modern concept that enables the delivery of information technology (IT) services by the use of resources accessed from the internet. The phrase “cloud computing” is used since the information that is needed is stored and accessed “in the cloud” without the need for a user to be in a particular place or office to access it. All a person needs is a computer, phone or internet enabled device to get the information he/she needs from wherever he/she is. Cloud computing has been made possible by the internet, and has replaced the use of physical storage devices such as DVDs. A person is now able to store information, including documents, music or videos in the “cloud” where nobody can physically steal it or destroy it.
