Chapter 7 discusses things to consider when utilizing volunteers. During times when others are in need, many choose to donate their time to help in any capacity. People are not looking for glory, they are simply trying to help others in need. Unfortunately, times arise when those in charge of large scale emergency events fail to utilize many of the volunteers. Those that wanted to help but are not used become discouraged and leave. When volunteers leave because they are not placed in a position to help, no matter how small, a valuable resource is wasted and the volunteer’s spirit to help is lost.
For this week’s assignment, discuss why it is important not to neutralize the volunteer spirit. Give you your opinion on why losing the volunteer spirit is a wasted resource.
Requirements for the assignment:
Base your opinion from the text in chapter 7
Give one example from the chapter on how the volunteer’s spirit was neutralized
Research one example outside the textbook of volunteer’s spirit being neutralized
