For your first research paper, choose a recent deadly police incident that created racial controversy. Explain the facts of the case, the outcome and the issues that surrounded the case that contributed to the controversy. Rely on all readings, websites and lecture notes to apply theoretical contributing factors as to why such incidents take place.
Assignment
Select ONE Criminal Justice theory that could be used to explain the behavior of one participant involved in the incident.
Suggested Format
Introduction ~ introduce topic in a general sense.
Facts of the case ~ explain in brief detail what happened.
Theoretical Perspective ~ introduce and summarize the theory you have selected and how it would apply to the incident in any way.
Apply theory ~ provide examples of how the theory applies to the case you selected.
Remember research papers are your thoughts supported by published research.

The essay must be APA format, 4-5 pages in length in actual content, double-spaced, using 12-point font with 1-inch margins and include at least 5 legitimate sources. Keep in mind that this is not an opinion based assignment, however, a researched based essay. You can use the ASU Library Database system to search articles/newspaper articles. Wikipedia, blogs, websites, and other nefarious sources of dubious credibility are not acceptable sources.
