Assignment overview:

In groups, students are required to produce a short video on the topic of Training and Development [T&D] interventions within a Hospitality-related business. You should self-select working teams of approx. 6 members per team [subject to student numbers] and agree on which organisation to base your research; there can be no duplication of organisations. Each individual is required to submit a 500-word critical analysis of a particular T&D intervention for their organisation.

Overall aim:

Through this project students will be able to demonstrate their ability to work in groups and think creatively, using their combined problem-solving skills and research skills. Students will demonstrate their critical thinking skills and their ability to apply these to an organisational issue, justifying how T&D can support both individual and organisational performance.

Tasks, Organization and Grading Video [40%]

You are required to develop and present a video of approx. 10 minutes per group. In your group you should agree on a suitable Hospitality-related business on which to base your research. You should critically analyse their current T&D offer by identifying what the company is doing well and what could be improved in their T&D in order to improve their organisation’s performance. Your analysis must make a clear link between T&D and the organisation’s business performance. You should identify the T&D interventions available to your organisation and based on your individual research [see below] and in your video offer a summary of these in terms of their strengths and weaknesses. The group should conclude their video by ranking each of the interventions and recommending which of these the organisation should prioritise.

In your recommendations you should identify any barriers or challenges to implementation and suggest how the organisation could overcome these.

  • A maximum of 1 minute of clips can be taken from other

  • All claims must be supported with evidence and all sources should be cited using APA A full list of references should be provided at the end of your video.
  • All group members should be a part of the video

This is a group work and will receive a group grade. In some cases, students may have problems with group work. A group member may either not be contributing to the overall group project or be excluded by other group members. Academic issues and issues between group members must be reported in writing to the faculty member leading the project with evidence that demonstrates the claims, e.g., records of team meetings, e-mail communications, etc. The group and/or the individual will be asked to present their case to the faculty and the Program Manager who will decide if the claims are substantiated. The issue must be reported to the faculty member by the midpoint of the project’s duration.

Individual Critical Analysis [60%]

Each individual in the group must select one T&D intervention [each individual must select a different one] and identify the strengths and weaknesses of this for the particular organisation. The individual critical analysis should be 500 words long and be supported with secondary sources and these should be referenced correctly using APA guidelines. This individual piece of work should be submitted through TII as a Word document.

All student work will be assessed against the level 7 grading criteria.
