Your myth paper should have a thesis that focuses on a particular issue or theme on mythology from a specific region in Asia.
For example, you write your paper on the origin of a certain mountain, city or temple. In your paper, you may compare the history of the city/mountain/temple to the myth that you use to show the similarities and differences and talk about the significance of these disparities.
You may discuss women in mythology, filial piety in mythology, Buddhism or Hinduism in mythology, symbolism in mythology, etc. When you decide on your thesis, pick a few myths you like to use in your discussion. These myths can be from outside sources or from our class readings. You may compare and contrast two similar myths or characters in your paper.
You may also write your term paper using a new topic of your choice. Your new topic must be aligned with the content of this course. That means topics that have to deal with creation myths, the mythic hero, metamorphosis, heaven and hell, gods and ghosts and immortality would be ideal. If you have doubts about your new topic, check with the professor before you begin. You should research on a myth not discussed in class or add a new perspective.
This is a research paper and the last page of your paper should be a bibliography with a minimum of four sources from both books and websites. This page is not included in the required pages for the paper. This is a research paper and all quotes and references must be credited.
- You should submit proposal and paper on Brightspace.
*Late proposals will affect your final paper grade.
- The paper is 6-8 pages in length, not including bibliography. [12 point, Times New Roman, 1 inch margins]. The myth podcast is 8-10 minutes [excludes special effects or music].
