Drawing examples from Khan and Fonkeng’s chapters and the films Tableau Ferraille (1990) by Mousa Sene Absa and Be’ Kunko (Our Problems) a film by Cheick Fanta Mady Camara discuss the roles women play in social guardianship and how political conflicts can sometimes make them pawns in the pursuit of political goals and in negotiations for peace during such conflicts
2.)Using examples from chapters 16 – 20 of Things Fall Apart discuss how the coming of Christianity and colonial rule reshaped the values, customs and social relations and rules of the communities- from Mbanta, Umoufia to Abame. Draw examples from the new rules on breaking the law, the roles of court messengers (kotma), inter-generational conflicts, the status of the osu and the efulelefu and Nneka’s conversion.
