Response: Cell Phone use while driving and location-based services discussion

Cell phone use and misuse of features such as location-based services constitute consumer misbehavior for various reasons. It is true that use of cell phones while driving endangers oneself and others due to the possibility of causing an accident since one does not concentrate on driving. It is also true that criminals could misuse location-based services to track a person. Access to such as the internet and other features associated with cell phones and location-based services can also result to other vices.

However, it is not correct to state that simply because one can access a cell phone, they will misuse it. Cell phones can be used in various positive ways. The motive for the use of the cell phone differentiates its ability to contribute to consumer misbehavior or not. For instance, if a driving person stops their car before receiving a call does not, in any way, contribute to consumer misbehavior as would be the case if they received while driving. More so, since one can misuse a cell phone does not mean they will misuse it. A person who upholds ethics and moral standards will not misuse their cell phones while driving. Therefore, a person’s decision to use cell phones while driving is a factor that stems from poor ethics and moral standards. The fact that one has switched on their location feature in their cell phones does not encourage being tracked. Location tracking uses the wireless signal and not the location feature. However, location-based can promote consumer misbehavior as it jeopardizes a person’s privacy
