English 101

In a minimum of 500 words, offer your opinion on which development had the greatest near-term impact and the greatest long-term impact, Gutenberg’s printing press or the Alphabet. You will not be graded on your opinion – which is yours, right or wrong – but instead on your ability to support your opinion with information discussed in class and in the assigned readings, along with whatever new insight you may offer. You may select one development for near-term and the other for long-term, or you can use one development for both. If you pick one for both, you have an obligation to demonstrate an understanding of the significance of the development you did not select. This paper is about both the Alphabet and the printing press. Please use New York Times opinion style, which means sourcing material and quotations in the body of the copy. No Bibliography or Works Cited page is required.
