Refer to the attached document named “Instructions.” Would you mind getting to the 600 words? I’ll rate you five stars.
I will also attach some of the feedback the professor gave me in the previous papers. I hope that it will allow you to get a better picture of what he is expecting.
“Overall you wrote a good paper, but it did not answer the question in the prompt. You gave a lot of great information on what caused the plane to crash from a technical point, but you did not offer any discussion on the ethics of the situation, and you did not talk about any of the ethical traps discussed in the book. Always make sure you understand the readings and answer the prompt completely and directly”;
“Good job – in the future, you may want to organize your papers so that each paper addresses a different piece of evidence for why people should know the outcome of their projects. For example, you could have a paragraph about the code of ethics, and a paragraph about the respect for personal approach.”;
Length: 600 – 700 words, double-spaced.
Preparation: Review Chapter 7 of Engineering Ethics: Concepts and Cases.
Topic:
For your paper, I would like you to discuss a technological innovation that contributes to sustainable development. It does so by, say, significantly increasing the efficiency of an existing technology [allowing users to “do more with less”] or decreasing humans’ environmental footprint through some entirely new process or product.
There are many described in current periodicals. [Google “sustainability innovations.”]
So, select such an innovation, and then in your paper please answer these questions [no need to re-state the questions in your paper]:
- What was the sustainability challenge the technological innovation was designed to address? In other words, why was there a need for this innovation?
- How did this new technology improve on existing technology or efforts to manage the problem it addresses? That is, how does this innovation contribute to sustainable development? [Improved design, cheaper materials, ?]
- What are the likely environmental and economic impacts, longer term, of the adoption of this technological innovation? [For example, will this innovation open up a new industry, creating new investment opportunities and new jobs? Will it have negative impacts—and, if so, how can those be managed?]
In general, what I’m looking for is an essay, looking at a particular innovation, that illustrates how engineering is making economic development increasingly more sustainable.
As always, cite your sources, and grammar- and spell-check your paper before submitting it.
